Safe Driving
You know what pisses me off more than anything else while on the road? It's when people don't use thier turn signals. I love it when morons are driving down the road and have to slam on their breaks or slow down and wait and get mad when other drivers ignore them. They think that everyone should just automatically know what they are doing. I heard a really funny ad on the radio the other day on this "Road Raged Hotline." This old man called and and said "You know... i really really really wish they'd creat a device that told other drivers which way you were turning. WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT?" LOL. I about died laughing. The man was sooo funny. How freaking hard is it to hit the little stick on the left side of the wheel. Really... Does it take that much effor? I don't think so. If i were a cop or someone in law enforcement, i would most certainly ticket people for not using their turn signals. Its the law. Its not one of those optional things. You can not, legally, turn left or right without signaling first. You can not change lanes with out signalling first. You're supposed to freaking signal when turning into a parking spot. I mean.... bah! I give up.
I've determined that there are very few drivers that actually drive well. If they use their turn signal, they speed. If they drive the speed limit, they don't signal. If they don't speed and signal, they don't stop at stop signs. I've seen only a few vehicles that have actually followed all of the laws. People get pissed off when i drive correctly. I seriously have people honking and flipping me off for following the law. Whether its by going the speed limit, stoping at stop signs, or turning left or right out of a second turn lane, I always have dumb idiots that get mad. Very few people know how to stop at a stop sign. When you get to it.... you actually have to stop. What an idea! "You mean i can't just roll through it?" No you moron! It doesn't say Yield does it? NO! When it says stop, that means your vehicle must competely stop rolling. I once sat at the intersection of Waterloo and Broadway and watched for vehicles that stopped all the way. I saw 2 that actually stopped. Do you konw how long i sat there? 2 hours. Yes.... on average, only one vehicle per hour stopped properly. That's sad.
Another thing that annoyes the hell out of me is when people don't realize there are TWO turn lanes when they are turning. You always see these multiple turn lanes to turn left. For the most part, those are ok. You still have the occasional idiot that doesn't know he has to follow the dotted white lines and stay on his side, but for the most part, people stay in their lanes. HOWEVER!! When you have multiple lanes that turn right, thats a different story. You see... Most poeple do not turn right correctly. When you turn right, i would bet money that you always turn into the ouside lane. (The lane closest to the center) Why? Who knows. Sometimes it's becuase you need in that lane. Other times its because you lack the ability to make a sharp turn. I don't know. This causes a major problem becuase people get accoustomed to it. Then, when they are presented with a situation where there are multiple right turn lanes, people continue to turn right and cross over into the other lane. If you are trying to turn right out of the second turn lane, the lane that turns directly into the outside lane, you get cut off and pushed into oncoming traffic. This is very common. Why can people not just turn right into the inside lane closest to the curb and then switch lanes? Yes, i wouldn't mind if you needed in that ouside lane instatly. For example, if you needed to turn left into a business. However... what is the purpose of doing so if you do not need in the lane?
Another thing that bothers me is the ammount of people that consider themselves good drivers even though they are clearly not. MOST of my friends say they are good drivers. However, when it comes to their driving, they either speed, fail to stop at stop signs, or simply drive wrecklessly. I'm sorry, but you are not a good driver if you speed. Period. That is bad driving. It's unsafe and against the law. I don't give a flying flip if you disagree with the laws. Its not up to you. If you don't like the laws, go have them changed. You know... we have a representative government peoples. Just becuase you think you are safer, doesn't mean you are. In fact, most people have no idea how to control their vehicles properly. Police and law enforcement officers know this very well. They deal with terrible accidents every day involving over-confident teens who thought they could handel their car when in fact they couldn't. Thats why we have laws. If you don't like them, move to Germany where they don't have speed limits. And even Germany has speed limits. Actually... if that was the main reason you moved there, you probably wouldn't end up getting a license. Do you know why? Becuase their licesning system is so complex and thorough, they would figure out what a terrible driver you were and deny you your license.
Remember, just becuase you think you are a good driver, doesn't mean you are. To attain this status, you must follow all of the laws. Not just some of them. I can with confidence say that i follow every single law there is. I travel the speed limit. I use my turn signal. I stop at stop signs. I'm one of the safest drivers in the state. I know that i'm not as trained and skilled as a race car driver or policeman. Thats why i follow the laws. And by doing so, i am a safe driver. You can be too. Simply follow the laws.
Sincerely,
Matt Keller
